The Story

From village school to learning community

Møllelejren, also known as MillCamp, lies at Møllestrædet 36 in Høve, in the hills of GeoPark Odsherred, Denmark. The buildings have been a village school, a school camp and a course venue, and today the place is a learning community and a retreat and course centre. This is its story, as far as we know it.

Høve School: 110 years as a village school

From 1837 to 1947 this was the village school, and children from Høve and the surrounding area went to school in the old main house for 110 years. From 1867 there was also an old stable building, where the schoolteacher's children sometimes slept alongside the animals, back when the teacher's family also lived in the main house. The schoolhouse was rebuilt in 1917. The photos show the school around 1920 and 1930 and the last class.

School camp and course venue

When the school closed, the buildings became a school camp and holiday camp. That is where the «lejren» in Møllelejren and the «camp» in MillCamp come from. For a short period in the late 1990s, the place was rented out to house refugees. From 2000 to 2015 it was used for courses, parties, weddings and other events.

The first idea: a school again

Ingerlil Teute bought the place in September 2015. The first idea was that Møllelejren should become a school again: an international boarding school in the spirit of the Danish efterskole and folk high school, where young people could spend a year learning about entrepreneurship, creativity, game development and the practical skills you need when you leave home. The project was called MillCamp Game Academy, and the teaching was to be in English.

Craftspeople started restoring the buildings, and in May 2016 the local newspaper wrote about the plans.

The guided tour from 2016

In the middle of the building work we filmed a quick tour of the buildings and grounds. It shows the place while it was being restored.

Møllelejren today: a learning community

Today Møllelejren is not a boarding school but a learning community and a retreat and course centre. Yoga teachers, facilitators of personal development, creativity and entrepreneurship, and leaders come here with their groups to immerse themselves, learn and spend time together close to nature.

The grounds cover 8,800 m², the beach is about 1.5 km away, and there are 44 beds in 16 rooms for rent. There is also plenty of space to pitch a tent, if you would like to bring one. It is not luxury, but an honest, close-to-nature place at a fair price.
